“Every villain is a hero in his own mind.”
― Tom Hiddleston
I tried to find the post on timelady-of-221b’s tumblr, but after about 2 hours of looking I gave up.
I am not saying that this Hitler is good, or anything of that kind. I am merely pointing out that he didn’t think what he was doing was evil. No one WANTS to do evil (and if they do, they aren’t entirely there). Sociopaths don’t kill because they know it’s evil, most kill their first time to know what it feels like. Many see it as a game. Hitler here is just an example that people may do evil for what they believe is good.
Evil is a concept, just like anything else, and can be misunderstood and twisted. Hitler did not see his actions as evil because he viewed the (what he called) “inferior” as doing evil by hurting his people, and he wanted to stop that.
His end goal does not justify his means, not by a long shot, but there is truth to the fact that most people are not evil, and do not do evil believing it to be evil.
